In Yevpatoria, a verdict was passed in a criminal case of telephone fraud
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The Evpatoria prosecutor’s office supported the state prosecution in a criminal case against a 31-year-old resident of the Saki district. He was found guilty under CC. 2, 3 tbsp. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud).
The court found that the defendant served as a courier in a group of telephone scammers who called elderly residents of the cities of Yevpatoria and Saki and informed them that their relatives or friends were responsible for road accidents. The group members convinced pensioners that they should provide money to compensate for the harm caused to victims of road accidents. The defendant met with pensioners who transferred their savings to him— reported the republican prosecutor’s office.
Thus, members of the criminal group stole more than 700 thousand rubles from 4 citizens.
The illegal actions of the convict were suppressed by internal affairs officers.
The court, taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, sentenced the man to 2 years in prison to serve the sentence in a general regime correctional colony. The prosecutor’s claims brought in the interests of elderly citizens were satisfied by the court in full.
