Inflation in Crimea in March was restrained by the growing supply of cucumbers, tomatoes and eggs

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Annual inflation in the Republic of Crimea remained almost unchanged in March and amounted to 7.3% after 7.2% in February. The rise in prices was restrained by the expansion of the supply of some vegetables and eggs. At the same time, demand for a number of non-food products, train tickets and rental housing has increased in the region, which has affected their prices.

In Crimea, the volume of egg production has increased, which is why their supply on the markets has expanded. As a result, prices for this product rose less year-on-year than in February. Also, the cost of eggs was adjusted by agreements adopted by local authorities with retail chains to establish a zero trade margin for certain categories of products. There are more tomatoes and cucumbers on the shelves in the region: the production of greenhouse products has increased both in Crimea and throughout the country. As a result, in the republic these vegetables fell in price in March compared to prices in the same month last year— note the press service of the Branch for the Republic of Crimea of the Southern Main Directorate of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.

The situation with medicines, building materials, knitwear and car tires is different — high demand has allowed manufacturers and suppliers to transfer increased costs into prices, including logistics and labor costs. As a result, these goods have risen in price in annual terms more than in February.

Due to the growing demand for travel to Crimea, the demand for long-distance train tickets has increased. This allowed the private carrier to increase the cost of travel in a compartment of a fast branded train. As a result, the annual increase in prices in general for railway transport services has accelerated.

In addition, due to the increase in tourist flow to the region, the demand for rental housing has increased. As a result, renting an apartment in Crimea was more expensive year-on-year in March than in February.

In general, inflation in the region was still below the level in the Southern Federal District (7.6%) and in Russia as a whole (7.7%). To ensure a sustainable reduction, the Bank of Russia will maintain tight monetary conditions for a long time.
