Instructive statistics: in 2023, 920 Crimeans were convicted of drunken driving on the roads
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Last year, 920 drivers were convicted in Crimea. All were found guilty of committing crimes under Art. 264.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (driving a vehicle while intoxicated by a person subject to administrative punishment or having a criminal record). Everyone lost their car license. Further, the variations of punishments for Crimeans vary.
Based on the results of the courts’ consideration of criminal cases, 181 convicts were sentenced to real imprisonment for a certain period of time, 15 citizens were assigned forced labor, 42 were given suspended imprisonment, 5 were given restriction of liberty, 9 were given correctional labor, and 631 were given compulsory labor.
Convicts are deprived of the right to drive all types of vehicles for certain periods. At the same time, 185 people had previously been convicted of driving while intoxicated. The courts of the Republic made decisions on the confiscation of vehicles in 286 criminal cases— reported the Crimean prosecutor’s office.
In 15 criminal cases, despite the position of state prosecutors, confiscation of vehicles was not applied by the courts. These decisions were appealed by prosecutors on appeal.
Money corresponding to the value of the transport subject to confiscation was confiscated from 5 citizens.
For committing a crime under Art. 264.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation provides for punishment of up to 2 years in prison with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a certain period and confiscation of the vehicle,” the prosecutor’s office recalled.
