Investigation of a criminal case on a mass road accident near Sevastopol has been completed

According to the regional department of the Investigative Committee, a 50-year-old truck driver from the Krasnodar Territory is accused of violating traffic rules and operating a vehicle, which negligently caused the death of a person (part 3 of article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

On August 4, 2022, a resident of the Krasnodar Territory was transporting agricultural products in a KAMAZ vehicle he rented with a trailer to the city of Sevastopol. The driver, driving a deliberately technically faulty transport, on the 275th km of the Sevastopol-Inkerman highway, exceeded the speed limit on a section with a steep descent, equipped with such warning signs, and lost control. KAMAZ crashed into the trailer of another heavy truck in front, which, having lost control from a strong blow, drove into the oncoming lane and collided with eight cars. As a result of a mass accident, a 40-year-old driver of the Volkswagen Polo, who was traveling from Krasnodar to Sevastopol, died. The investigator for the investigation of particularly important cases established that before the flight the driver did not eliminate a number of significant technical malfunctions, in which its operation is prohibited. Among them is the worn out condition of the brake system of the truck.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the crime in full. The criminal investigation has been completed. The materials were sent to the prosecutor’s office for the purpose of studying, signing the indictment and sending the case to court.

The prosecutor’s office of Sevastopol clarified some of the nuances:

As a result of a road accident, the driver of the Volkswagen Polo car received bodily injuries, from which he died at the scene. Another 14 people received various minor and moderate injuries, bruises and abrasions.

The prosecutor’s office of the city of Sevastopol sent the criminal case to the Balaklava district court for consideration on the merits.
