December is not the worst month to use vacation. If you choose between December and January, it will definitely be more profitable to go on vacation in December.

The presence of non-working holidays in a month reduces the number of working hours in that month. To determine the profitability of using vacation, you need to remember one simple rule — the fewer working days in a month, the more unprofitable it is to use vacation at this time. If there are few working days (or working hours) in a month, it is more profitable to work that month and get paid.

So, January 2024 will have only 17 working days (136 hours). Taking this into account, the cost of one working day will be higher compared to other months.

In January, the cost of one working day will most likely be higher than the cost of one day of vacation paid “on average”. Therefore, in order not to lose money, it makes sense to work in January.

If you want to add to the New Year holidays, it makes sense to take a vacation the day before — in December 2023. There are 21 working days in December 2023, so there should not be a major loss of money.
