Is it tornado season in Crimea?

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Today, eyewitnesses shared a video online of a tornado «passing» through fields in the Chernomorskoye area. No consequences or troubles. Just an unusual natural phenomenon.

Is it really that unusual? A few days ago, a photo of a tornado in the sea not far (far?) from Alupka was circulated on social networks.

Tornado. Alupka

And in the area of the Sochi Black Sea coast this summer, about ten tornadoes have already been counted. What’s going on? Is it tornado season in Crimea and the Black Sea?

Firstly, the phenomenon is not that unusual. But dangerous. Let’s recall August 2022, when a tornado caused trouble in Novoozernoe, destroying an oyster farm and, fortunately, did not go further along the coast.

And in August 2012, residents and visitors of Foros witnessed a rare phenomenon when four tornadoes passed over the sea at the same time.

The most destructive tornado in recent Crimean history was the 2002 tornado, which significantly destroyed the villages of Lobanovo and Vypasnoye. Up to 10 people and almost a hundred houses were damaged.

Have you noticed a trend? August… In the Black Sea (above the Black Sea), tornadoes form when the water becomes too warm (above +25 C). This is our Crimean August. This year, the summer is hotter — that’s why tornadoes made themselves known at the end of July. Scientists state: a zone of rarefied air with a funnel-pipe appears exactly at the junction of a relatively cold section of the sea and warm air (also with evaporation). But let’s be honest, science still hasn’t 100% figured out the nature of tornadoes that seem to appear out of nowhere. Yes, a thunderstorm front, yes, low clouds, yes, a collision of warm and cold air masses, yes, water and evaporation… BUT! Simulate such conditions 100 times — in 99 cases there are no air «walking» funnels…

Tornadoes “move” quickly – at a speed of up to 240 km/h. They can occur both at sea and on land. The rotation in the “funnel” is simply outrageous – over 300 m/sec. And they appear more and more often. Scientists associate this with processes in the atmosphere caused by global warming. Well, against the backdrop of the current hot summer… we are waiting for new photos and videos of tornadoes. Hopefully, not destructive ones.
