On Saturday morning, March 2, the Sevastopol police received a message from a resident of house No. 2 on Pavel Korchagin Street that a fire had broken out in one of the apartments on the first floor of the high-rise building. The police, the Ministry of Emergency Situations and other emergency services immediately arrived at the scene of the incident. The fire was extinguished by firefighters, and the three people in the apartment were evacuated and hospitalized.
Upon the fact of a fire in the home, police officers began an investigation, ordered the necessary examinations, and seized items from the scene that were important for establishing the cause of the fire. Based on the results of a fire engineering study, it was determined that the cause of the fire was deliberate arson.— reported the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol.
During operational search activities, the police established the involvement of a 44-year-old local resident living in the same entrance in the commission of this act. It was previously established that the man committed the arson due to hostile relations based on previously arising conflict situations with the owner of the burnt apartment.
Currently, the investigative department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Gagarinsky district has opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 2 of Article 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Deliberate destruction or damage to property”). The defendant was detained in accordance with Article 91 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of the Russian Federation.
