It will take 1-4 years to restore plants in the Karadag Reserve after the fire
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The fire affected the least valuable areas of Kara-Dag. These were mainly areas close to the village, they had already been damaged to some extent and were in a state of recovery. Now most of the plants were dormant: their above-ground part was dying, and the living part was inside the soil. Since the fire spread very quickly, only the surface part of the vegetation was burned. To some extent, this helped, because only the forest floor and rags burned, it did not cause much harm.
The biologist noted that fires usually pose the greatest danger to coniferous trees among woody vegetation, but their number in the damaged area is small. For example, a burnt juniper will not recover, but the remaining trees will actively recover as soon as it rains.
Plants will recover quickly, in 1-2 years, trees — in 2-4 years.— the specialist notes.
Wildfire near Koktebel in Crimea has begun on the afternoon of July 15. Its initial area was 20 hectares. By the morning of July 16, it was localized on an area of 40 hectares. Due to dry and windy weather, the fire spread over a significant area of the Karadag Reserve. As reported official representative of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs Irina Volk, police officers identified the 50-year-old culprit of the incident: the fire started due to the ignition of dry grass from a spark while cutting metal with a grinder. A criminal case has been opened on this fact. The total area of the fire was 44 hectares, including the territories adjacent to the reserve.
