January 23 — Gregory the Summer Guide. Time to get ready for spring

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Believe it or not, winter has already “lived” half of the time allotted to it by the calendar and has reached the day that is popularly named Gregory the Summer Guide. Literally this means it’s time to prepare for spring. Plan work in the garden, conduct an “audit” of bins and sort through seeds and grains for planting.

What else is remarkable about January 23? Today, more than ever, our ancestors analyzed signs more carefully. They judged what the coming days would be like and… most importantly… what the weather would be like in the summer.

We look, compare, delve into and draw conclusions:

  • If frost is visible on the haystacks and trees, the summer will be cool and stormy.
  • On the day of Gregory the Summer Pointer, the wind blows from the South — in June there will be frequent thunderstorms and rain.
  • Clear weather on January 23 foreshadows a dry and hot summer.
  • If there is a lot of snow on Gregory, there will be a lot of bread.
  • The frost on January 23 does not go away in the evening — a sign that the weather will soon deteriorate.
  • Frost is visible on the poles, then fishing will be bad. This also promises a bad rye harvest.
  • The first drop on Gregory’s day promises a warm summer.
  • If the whole day of January 23 is sunny and dry, summer will also be dry and hot.
  • If the sky is cloudless and clear, it will be early spring.
  • Dry snow is a sign that there will be a dry summer this year.
