Believe it or not, winter has already “lived” half of the time allotted to it by the calendar and has reached the day that is popularly named Gregory the Summer Guide. Literally this means it’s time to prepare for spring. Plan work in the garden, conduct an “audit” of bins and sort through seeds and grains for planting.
What else is remarkable about January 23? Today, more than ever, our ancestors analyzed signs more carefully. They judged what the coming days would be like and… most importantly… what the weather would be like in the summer.
We look, compare, delve into and draw conclusions:
- If frost is visible on the haystacks and trees, the summer will be cool and stormy.
- On the day of Gregory the Summer Pointer, the wind blows from the South — in June there will be frequent thunderstorms and rain.
- Clear weather on January 23 foreshadows a dry and hot summer.
