July 10 — Samson's Day. Pray for good weather

In general, since July, the hottest hay time has come. The peasants prayed especially zealously these days, asking the patron saint for good weather. Sunny windless days guaranteed a good harvest of the main cattle feed in winter. The rains did not bode well — wet hay rots quickly and, of course, is unsuitable for feeding animals.

While the peasants were puzzled by haymaking, rich and wealthy people on Samson tried to show the generous side of their soul to the maximum: they gave alms to as many poor and beggars as possible. True, often this was not done out of the will of a good heart. It was believed that the more you give 10 in July, the more you get for the whole year.

The signs for today are as follows:

• Rain on Samson — it will rain constantly right up to Indian Summer itself.
• Curly clouds 10 of July float from the north side? To drought. If the clouds float from the West, then there will be inclement weather.
• Green hay on Samson? There will be a lot of buckwheat porridge. But the black hay 10 of July portends a rich year for millet porridge.
• Sticky droplets of juice appeared on the leaves of horse sorrel — a sign the fact that in two days it will rain.
• The bindweed flowers suddenly closed — to the rain.
