July 10th is Samson-Haymaker's Day. They ask for the sun, not for rain…
CrimeaPRESS reports:
In general, the hottest haymaking season began on July 10. The peasants prayed especially fervently these days, asking the patron saint for good weather. Sunny, windless days guaranteed a good harvest of the main feed for livestock in winter. Rains did not bode well — wet hay rots quickly and, naturally, is unsuitable for feeding animals.
While the peasants were busy with haymaking, the rich and wealthy tried to show the generous side of their souls on Samson: they gave alms to as many poor people and beggars as possible. True, this was often done against the will of a good heart. It was believed that the more you give on July 10, the more you will receive for the whole year.
The signs for today are as follows:
- Rain on Samson — it will rain constantly until Indian Summer.
- Fleecy clouds on July 10th float from the north? To drought. If clouds float from the west, then there will be inclement weather.
- Green hay on Samson? There will be a lot of buckwheat porridge. But black hay on July 10 foretells a rich year for millet porridge.
- Sticky droplets of juice appeared on the leaves of horse sorrel — a sign that it will rain in two days.
- The morning glory flowers suddenly closed – it’s going to rain.
And also much attention should be paid to dreams seen on the night of Samson. So, if you dreamed of a wreath on your head — you will gain glory, but it will be empty and useless. An empty bottle — to a merry feast. Signs on houses — to purchases. Talking to God in a dream — be careful, danger awaits you. If a girl swallows saliva or feels hungry in a dream — this promises her a quick weight loss.
Name days are celebrated by: Ivan, Ignatius and Ivanna, Anekt, Markey, Samson, Sever, Luke, Serapion.
