July 16 — Makov day, Mokiy and Demid. They say that the day is not very happy
CrimeaPRESS reports:
July 16, people thought, is a day … to put it mildly … unlucky. In connection with such “glory”, they tried not to start new business these days, make large purchases, move, travel. The only task that was allowed to be solved was to collect poppies. It was used as a filling for rich pastries: buns, pies, pies. In addition, with the help of poppy in the old days, they defended themselves from evil sorcerers and the phenomena of the dead.
And July 16 was called Stozhary. So the Slavs called the Pleiades cluster, located in the constellation Taurus. His appearance promised good luck to the hunters, otherwise, on the contrary, it was not worth going to the forest, because there would be no prey. The Slavs treated the stars with special reverence, because they believed that it was angels who turn on the light in the windows of their houses (not only on July 16) and look at people from heaven.
The Church today honors the memory of Saints Mocius and Mark. They lived during the reign of Emperor Maximilian and were known as zealous Christians. According to legend, during the period of organized persecution, Mokiy and Mark were arrested, and the pagans tried to force them to worship idols. According to legend, when the saints were brought to the altar, a small child came out in front of them, who began to interfere with them and did not allow them to pass. Then the pagans severely beat the child, after which the brothers became even stronger in their conviction not to worship any idols and continue to praise Jesus Christ. As a result, they were beheaded.
As for the weather, on July 16, the probability of a strong thunderstorm and storm is greater than ever. And:
- Does a spider spin a web? For sunny weather.
- The dog digs the ground, rolls on it, refuses food and sleeps a lot? To a protracted storm.
- A lot of mosquitoes in the air — to clear weather.
- Midges curl around — the heat will last all week.
Name days are celebrated today: Anatoly, Ivan, Anton, Alexander, Mark, Konstantin, Mikhail, George, Vasily, Gerasim.
