The Church today honors the memory of the Monk Athanasius of Athos, who was born in Trebizond and left an orphan quite early. One nun took up his upbringing, and Athanasius fell in love with her so much that he strove to imitate everything. He even took tonsure while on the territory of the Kiminsky monastery. Having reached perfection in vigils and a long fast, he decides on a feat of silence and settles in a secluded place not far from the monastery. Often the hermit had to fight with demons who tried to arouse in him a feeling of hatred for the world around him. And once Athanasius practically succumbed to doubts, but decided to endure exactly 1 year, and then submit to the will of God. Suddenly, on the last day, a bright light shone from heaven, and the sinful thoughts of Athanasius dissipated at the same moment. After that, Athanasius received the gift of tenderness for his humility, and pilgrims began to come to his cell who wanted to seek help or advice. Tradition says that even the Mother of God herself appeared several times to Athanasius.
