The most important thing to do on July 19 is to get up early and walk barefoot in the dew! Our ancestors believed that on this day it acquires the strongest healing properties. Able to give a person strength, give courage and give good health. It was said that this dew is useful even for birds and beasts. And the morning mists fill everything around with life-giving force.
Experienced healers also knew this property of Sysoevsky dew. Early in the morning they went out to the meadow, collected precious moisture and stored it all year round. She treated diseases of the eyes, rubbed the joints, made lotions for the face. And if you mix it with medicinal herbs — you get a strong potion!
And on July 19, they cooked blackcurrant jam. We also tried to complete all the field work, because it was a rainy season.
The Church today honors the memory of the Monk Sysoi the Great. He is known for his hermit lifestyle. Far from people, he spent 60 years, reaching spiritual purity, for which he received from God the gift of miracles. And his strength was so great that Sysoy once even managed to resurrect a dead young man. Tradition says that the monk was very strict towards himself, but with his neighbors he showed only kindness and compassion. Just before his death, when Sysoi was lying on the bed, and the disciples were near him, the monk’s face suddenly shone, and he said that he saw angels, holy prophets and the Lord. After that he gave up his spirit.
Also on July 19, the memory of the martyr Hermias and other martyrs — five disciples who suffered for their faith in Jesus Christ — is venerated. Ermiy himself was born in Athens and was engaged in the preaching of Christianity. Subsequently, during the persecution organized against believers by the emperor Numerian, he was arrested and killed.
