These days were the time of harvest. As a rule, there were rains with thunderstorms and lightning. That is why people fervently prayed to Saint Princess Olga on July 24, so that she would send good weather and help finish the harvest as quickly as possible. People also call this day «Olga-hay-noyka».
As for Saint Equal-to-the-Apostles Princess Olga, whose memory is honored on this day. First of all, she became famous not only for the cruel revenge she took on the Drevlians for the death of her husband, Prince Igor, but also for her ability to strengthen the Old Russian state and, having been baptized herself, actively preached the new faith and contributed to the establishment of Orthodoxy in Rus’. Under Olga, the first Christian churches were built, and preparations were made for the general baptism of Rus’.
And on July 24, the constellation Ursa Major (Stozhary) is especially clearly visible. There are many popular beliefs associated with it. It is believed that this huge ladle, woven from stars, influences the weather, as well as the life of some plants and animals. Previously, people believed that all the heavenly bodies revolved around this constellation.

- Lots of mosquitoes in the evening – a sign of a berry harvest. Midges swarm – there will be lots of mushrooms in the fall.
