July 25, as people noted, is the day when there is the heaviest dew. They said: «On Prokl the field is soaked with dew.» On this day, they tried to wake up before dawn. They believed that if you wash yourself with dew early in the morning, it will help protect you from the evil eye, and will give girls beauty and youth. Today, healers work in the fields until sunset, collecting medicinal herbs. The potions made from them have special healing powers.
The Church today honors the memory of the holy martyrs named Hilaria and Proclus, who suffered for their faith in the 2nd century. First, Proclus was arrested and forced to renounce Jesus Christ. However, he remained faithful to the Savior and predicted to the emperor that he himself would soon believe in God. After this, by order of Emperor Maximus, Proclus was tied to the governor’s chariot and then forced to run after it. The martyr prayed for the Lord to stop the cart, and God fulfilled his request — no efforts helped to move it from the spot, and this continued exactly until Maximus signed a charter certifying that preaching Christianity was not a violation of the law. However, the governor still took revenge on Proclus — he ordered him to be tied to a pillar and shot. On the way to execution, Proclus met Hilaria — his uncle, who also preached the Christian faith. As a result, he was also arrested and executed along with Proclus. After the execution, the disciples buried Proclus and Hilary in the same grave.
