Believe it or not, but people believed that autumn gradually sets in from July 27. Nature itself confirmed this fact by arranging a «weather Armageddon». As a rule, during these 24 hours a strong wind rises and a thunderstorm rages.

And also, according to ancient beliefs, on July 27, evil spirits come out in the form of lightning, which people were very afraid of and tried not to leave their homes during a thunderstorm unless absolutely necessary. They also believed that evil spirits could turn into birds, pets, and even children. To prevent evil from demons, people carefully watched the fields. Patrols were common — when peasants took turns going out into the field and making sure that the wind did not blow away the hay.

There was a widespread belief that it was necessary to appease the Field Spirit, the spirit that lives in the field. To protect the crops from bad weather, they prepared a pot of porridge, which was left at the last strip of the harvest. A bunch of rye was placed on the strip itself. It was believed that this ritual was a guarantee of a good harvest next year.

The Church today honors the memory of Saint Aquila, one of the 70 apostles. He was a Jew by origin and was born in Pontus, but later lived in Rome until Emperor Claudius issued a decree banishing him. Together with his wife Priscilla, Aquila settled in Corinth and met the Apostle Paul there. Together they began to spread the Christian faith.

In addition, July 27 is one of the days on which the memory of Stefan Makhrishchsky is honored — a famous miracle worker and founder of several monasteries. He is also a contemporary of Sergius of Radonezh.
