June 10 is the Day of Evgeniy Tykhy, Nikita Gusyatnik. Special spirits are now revered…
CrimeaPRESS reports:
June 10th, in the folk calendar — Nikita the Goose Man, Eutychius. According to signs, if the day is quiet, then the harvest will be good. The date received its names in the folk calendar in honor of Nikita the Confessor and Eutyches, Bishop of Melitino, revered by the Orthodox Church on June 10.
There was another name for the day of June 10 — Midday. It was customary to honor special spirits who were very similar to ordinary women. They were beautiful and stately, flew over the fields on hot summer days and lured peasants working in the fields into their nets. It was rumored that they could torment workers and deprive them of their male strength. If a person saw such a flying woman on June 10, he had to close his eyes and say: “Lord, save me from temptation.” It was impossible to anger such spirits, otherwise they would become very angry and, according to signs, would do everything to dry up the fields, after which there would be no good harvest.
At this time, the goslings begin to float into the water.
They often die in dozens, becoming prey to birds of prey and animals. Therefore, it is not without reason that our ancestors gave geese a separate patron saint who protects small geese, keeping hawks, eagles and other predators away from them.
Saint Nikita became the patron and protector of geese (domestic and wild). In the folk calendar there are two Nikitas the goose (hussars) — Nikita of Chalcedon (June 10) and the Great Martyr Nikita of Goth (September 28). They seem to regulate the arrival and departure of wild geese, the time when goslings are born from eggs, and the timing of the slaughter of poultry. Essentially, Saint Nikitas perform almost the same functions, which, of course, served to unite them into one image.
On this day, pregnant women were specially sent to the field, because they believed that this way the child could gain strength comparable to a young ear of corn. There was also a belief that if childbirth occurs in a grain field, it will be easy and the child will be born healthy. Also during this period, they paid attention to natural phenomena and tried to predict the weather for the coming days and months.

Memory of our venerable father Nikita, Bishop of Chalcedon
Our venerable father Nikita, from a young age, loved Christ; having renounced the world and all worldly attachments, he pleased God with his virtuous life, and was elevated to the throne of the Chalcedonian priesthood, on which, like a candle standing on a candlestick, he shone for the world and adorned the Church of Christ.
Saint Nikita was very merciful to the poor; he fed the greedy, clothed the naked, welcomed strangers into his home and gave them rest; he was a father to orphans, a protector to widows and a savior to all the offended.
When the difficult times of the iconoclastic heresy3502 came, during the reign of Leo the Armenian3503, Saint Nikita showed himself to be a courageous confessor of the name of Christ, for he labored much in the fight against wicked teaching, denouncing unorthodox dogmas, exhorting everyone to reverently worship the icon of Christ the Lord and His Most Pure Mother of God, as well as icons and all other saints; the valiant confessor of Christ suffered much torment from the wicked king and his like-minded people; He suffered exile, humiliation, and other troubles for his orthodoxy.
After a sufficient time, after many confessional labors, Saint Nikita passed from earth to the heavenly abodes 3504; God glorified him in heaven before His angels, and on earth — before people, for from his honest relics many miracles were performed, healings of all kinds of diseases were given to the glory of God, glorified in His saints.
