June 17 is Mitrofan's Day. It is raining?
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Or rather, people called this day Mitrofan Navoznik. And they respected Mitrofan endlessly, believing that he was the guarantee of the future harvest. On June 17, the land was necessarily fertilized and they said: “Without manure, father, do not expect bread from mother earth,” “The good earth will accept manure once, but it will be remembered for nine years,” “If you deceive the field once, it will deceive you for ten.” In addition, they called out to the wind and asked him to send rains in the summer in order to get a good harvest in the future.
The Church today honors Saint Mitrophan, the Metropolitan of Constantinople, who lived in the 3rd-4th centuries. One day, Emperor Constantine the Great visited Byzantium. Seeing the wisdom and holiness of Mitrofan, he invited him to go with him to Rome. After this, the capital was transferred from Rome to Byzantium, and there Mitrofan became patriarch in 325, which was facilitated by the emperor’s petition at the First Ecumenical Council. The saint died at the age of 117 years.
As for weather signs, then:
- Is it raining on Mitrofan? This weather will continue for another two or three days.
- Stuffiness during sunrise means bad weather.
- The night violet has blossomed — for sunny days.
- The wind is running on Mitrofan in his “fleet boots” — strong winds are blowing.
- During the day, do birds slowly fly to their nests? The weather will be damp.
- Swifts hang high in the air, and then fly low above the ground — a sign of bad weather.
- The rain stops or falls intermittently, and in the evening fog and dew appear — good weather.
