June 18 — Dorotheus Day. Dreams are prophetic!

CrimeaPRESS reports:

The people said that Dorotheus on June 18 brings the shortest nights of the year. They even came up with a name for them — sparrows. But! They believed that dreams at this time are prophetic, because now an amazing plant is blooming — sleep-grass. It has amazing properties. Various drugs are prepared from it. The main thing is not to make a mistake and find the “right” sleep-grass. How? The plant must be lowered into the spring water on the full moon and the real one will stir!

Our ancestors also believed that evil spirits were afraid of sleep-grass, so they carried it with them. They said: “Whoever wears sleep-grass with him, the devil flees from him; to have it in the house is to make good; and to build mansions — to lay at an angle, to live in peace.

The church today honors the memory of St. Dorotheus, who lived in the 3rd-4th centuries on the territory of the Phoenician city of Tyre. He served as a bishop. During the persecution organized against Christians at the initiative of Emperor Diocletian, he hid from supporters of the pagan faith. He was able to return to Tire only after Constantine, known for his loyal attitude towards Christians, began to bear the imperial title — it was he who issued the Edict of Milan. Thanks to this, religious tolerance was proclaimed on the territory of the Roman Empire. About 50 years after that, Dorotheos ruled his diocese. However, he did not die of old age — during the reign of Julian the Apostate, he was martyred in the name of faith, since the new emperor did not share the convictions of his predecessor Constantine and persecuted Christians.
