June 18 – Dorotheus Day. Dreams, they say, are prophetic…
CrimeaPRESS reports:
People said that Dorofey on June 18 brings the shortest nights of the year. They even came up with a name for them — passerines. But! They believed that dreams were prophetic at this time, because today an amazing plant is blooming — dream-grass. It has amazing properties. Various drugs are prepared from it. The main thing is not to make a mistake and find the “right” sleep herb. How? The plant needs to be lowered into spring water on the full moon and the real thing will begin to move!
Our ancestors also believed that dream grass was afraid of evil spirits, so they carried it with them. They said: “Whoever carries sleep-grass with him, the devil runs away from him; having it in the house means making good money; and build mansions — put them at an angle, live peacefully.”
The church today honors the memory of Saint Dorotheus, who lived in the 3rd-4th centuries on the territory of the Phoenician city of Tire. He served as a bishop. During the persecution organized against Christians on the initiative of Emperor Diocletian, he hid from supporters of the pagan faith. He was able to return to Tire only after Constantine, known for his loyal attitude towards Christians, began to bear the imperial title — it was he who issued the Edict of Milan. Thanks to this, religious tolerance was proclaimed throughout the Roman Empire. For about 50 years after this, Dorotheus ruled his diocese. However, he did not die of old age — during the reign of Julian the Apostate, he accepted martyrdom in the name of faith, since the new emperor did not share the beliefs of his predecessor Constantine and persecuted Christians.
The signs for June 18 are as follows:
- Good weather on Dorofey’s day means a good grain harvest.
- Wind on June 18th from the east? Summer will be windy and rainy.
Name days are celebrated today by: Dmitry, George, Mikhail, Leonid, Igor, Gordey, Peter, Mark, Fedor, Gabriel.
