June 19 — Illarion's Day. Weeds in the garden?

On June 19, the people were considered labor during the day — they began weeding the fields and the garden. They said: «Illarion came — excess grass out of the field.» Our ancestors were sure, if we did not declare the weeds “war” on this day, then in the future it would be taken to fight them constantly.

The church now honors the memory of St. Illarion of Dalmatian, who is also called new. Indeed, in the 4th century, another Illarion the Great lived, whose memory is revered on November 3.
