June 20 is St. Fedot's Day. Bathe!
CrimeaPRESS reports:
People believed that the swimming season could open from June 20. Before Fedot Day, our ancestors believed, this should not be done, because mermen and mermaids could drag you under water. From the 20th, Fedot stands guard with a sickle near reservoirs and cuts off the hair of all mermaids who try to attack a Christian.
The church now honors the memory of a martyr named Theodotus of Ancyra, who lived in the territory of the city of Ancyra in the 3rd century. He was an ardent preacher of the faith of Christ. He was able to convert many sinners to Christianity. Theodotus had his own hotel, in which he often talked with his guests about faith and life. It became a refuge for many Christians who were persecuted by the emperor. In addition, Theodotus tried to visit prisoners in prison as often as possible and buried them after execution or death from disease. It was then that 7 virgins suffered martyrdom at the hands of their persecutors. One of these maidens appeared to Theodotus in a dream and ordered him to raise the bodies of the maidens from the bottom of the lake in order to bury them. Theodotus fulfilled the request, and the Lord helped him in this. The emperor learned about Theodotus and ordered the elder to be seized and subjected to numerous tortures. After this, Theodotus was executed. However, it is known that until the last second he did not renounce his faith and continued to glorify Jesus Christ.
The weather signs are:
- Bees sitting on the walls of the hive mean intense heat.
- A night without dew — expect rain.
- Thunder rumbles on June 20 — a sign of bad weather that will last for several days. If thunder moves from place to place on June 20 and is heard from different directions, hail is possible along with cold snap.
- Rain on Fedot — there will be a bad rye harvest.
- In clear weather, pigeons look for shelter — it means it will rain soon.
- Red, fiery flashes of lightning foreshadow winds or a storm.
- If smoke from a fire spreads across the ground, swirls, or eats your eyes, and the coals smolder brightly, the weather will change to inclement.
- Sparrows bathing in dust means bad weather.
- In the morning, pigeons sit closely on the roof, turning their breasts to the east — towards the rain.
- During the night the spiders expanded their webs — it will be a good day.
