June 29 – Tikhon Day. Summer is ripe, however…

CrimeaPRESS reports:

On June 29, people believed that the young summer ends and the mature one begins. They said: “On Tikhon the sun is quieter, and the birds do not sing on this day, except for the nightingale and the cuckoo.” They tried to prepare potions that day, because they were sure that herbs now acquire special healing powers.

And on this day, the peasants always organized a cleanup. This was the name of the feast for the workers gathered to help their neighbors: they were called to remove and level manure in the fields. They were treated to dinner, mash and wine. The feast always ended with games and songs. The very name of this action – “cleanse” – meant working for food.

The church today honors the memory of Saint Tikhon, who lived on the island of Cyprus in the city of Amafunta. He became famous for fighting the manifestations of paganism, destroying temples and preaching Christianity. At the same time, Tikhon, legends say, was a very merciful and kind person. By the way, they prayed to him, asking him to give him a rich harvest. It was also believed that prayer to Tikhon would help relieve toothache.

As for weather signs:
