June 4 — Vasiliska Day. We honor Yarilo today
Krympress reports:
This day was also named a cornflower day, St. Vassa Day, a nightingale day. In addition, our ancestors honored Yaril on June 4 — the god of nature and life -giving forces. It was believed that now the love magic that is used to attract the narrowed and achieve family well -being is of particular power. They drove round dances around the birches, decorated the branches of trees with bright ribbons, burned bonfires and asked Yarilo to send them love and happiness.
The church now honors the memory of the martyr Vasilisk, who in 308 suffered for faith in Christ, because he did not want to make a sacrifice to the pagan gods. As a result, he was beheaded.
In Rus’, on June 4, they tried not to sow anything and not to go to the arable land. Otherwise, some cornflowers will grow, they didn’t go into the gardens either — otherwise wormwood will be spoiled. Nevertheless, the cornflowers were very fond of the people and affectionately called the Sinitewood, Sinyushnik, Blavat, Voloshka, and Patchwork. The flower, according to legend, got its name in honor of the young guy, the only son of the mother, Vasil, bewitched and destroyed by mermaid. Fascinated by her in the field, it turned into a blue flower, reminiscent of deep water with its color.
As for the weather, then:
- Strong fog and abundant dew on a basilisk portend a fruitful year.
- Birds sing fun — to good weather.
- The north wind will disperse the rain.
- Stars in the sky shine dimly and at the same time flicker with a reddish or bright blue color? To the rain.
- Around the stars appeared black circles — to the badger.
- Fogs often appear — a mushroom summer will be outstanded.
- Do you hear nightingale singing in the middle of the night? In the coming days it will definitely be dry.
