June 6 is the Day of Simeon the Stylite. Rosehip blooms
CrimeaPRESS reports:
People believed that real summer began on June 6th. They said: “The rose hips are blooming — the blush of the year leads.” For our ancestors, this plant personified true love and was a symbol of beauty and youth.
The medicinal properties of rose hips were also highly valued. With its help, it was customary to heal wounds, cleanse blood, and treat colds. And among young girls there was a widespread belief that washing with water infused with rose hips would preserve youth and beauty.
On June 6, according to the folk calendar, the green or summer holidays began, which will last until June 13. Houses were decorated with plants and flowers, and wreaths were curled on birch trees.
The Church today honors the memory of the wonderworker Simeon the Stylite. He spent the night in the Syrian desert, where he founded a new type of ascetic life called pillarism. Its essence was that Simeon built a pillar several meters high, and then climbed onto it and settled there. The stylite stood around the clock and prayed incessantly, steadfastly enduring the heat and cold. He only ate wheat that had swollen in water. His unprecedented feat became known throughout the Christian world.
The signs for June 6 are as follows:
- Are rosehips blooming wildly on Simeon the Stylite? It is worth waiting for a notable bite of crucian carp.
- If the rosehip flowers smell stronger than usual, there will be rain.
- Water lily buds on the water surface indicate warming.
- If during rain a rainbow forms from north to south, then the bad weather will last for a long time.
- Does the wind blow along the current? The weather will be cloudless.
