June 7 — Midsummer's Day. Honeydew begins
CrimeaPRESS reports:
People noted that from June 7 — due to sudden changes in temperature — the so-called honey (honey, sweet) dew begins. What kind of phenomenon is this? Our ancestors designated it this way: aphids and worms, drawing juice from plants, leaving their sweet traces on them, which are harmful to plants, livestock, and children. They said: “Honey dew knows rust, spreads sweetly and eats away painfully”. However, the peasants were only partially right: the sweet liquid itself is safe for plants and animals. The damage comes from the insects it attracts. They are the ones who carry diseases that are dangerous to flora and fauna. So, as a result of “honey dew,” honeydew appears.
In particular, they asked for help in the fight against sweet dew from St. John the Baptist (John the Baptist), whose memory is honored by the church on June 7. On this day the third discovery of the head of John is remembered. The saint, we recall, predicted the coming of the Savior, and later baptized Jesus Christ in the waters of the Jordan.
The signs for June 7 are as follows:
- There is a lot of bear dew today — for a rich harvest.
- Heavy dew in the morning means a sunny and warm day. If there is no dew on June 7, then… most likely… it will rain.
- There are many flowers on the rowan tree — there will be a good harvest of oats.
- Did the rowan bloom late? Autumn will be long.
- The ground is damp by this time — a sign that there will be a good harvest of bread, and vice versa.
