«Keep prices»? How much does it cost to repair and insure a car in 2023?

CrimeaPRESS reports:

The growth in the cost of spare parts over the past year amounted to 27.7%, as evidenced by the statistics of the Russian Union of Insurers (RSA). Is it a lot or a little? Let’s look at the numbers together. On the one hand, we see the data of the sociological study «OSAGO in conditions of economic uncertainty» conducted by the working group of the ONF «Protection of the rights of motorists» in June-July 2023. They testify that the number of motorists who estimate the cost of their car to 500 thousand rubles has fallen sharply, by half.

It is obvious that the shift in the assessment of the cost of their car by the respondents to a greater extent was influenced by the increase in prices for cars and auto parts, — emphasized the head of the working group, Pyotr Shkumatov. — Almost half of the respondents (46%) believe that their car costs more than 1 million rubles, which coincides with independent estimates of the median cost of a car in operation (870 thousand rubles as of 07/01/2023). In general, respondents began to evaluate their cars much more expensive, and also began to indicate that they were no longer able to purchase a new car at a price that was a multiple of the usual indicators. In connection with these factors, people began to treat the car more carefully, began to invest more in its maintenance and maintenance.

On the other hand, an increase in the accident rate is recorded — in the first half of this year, 56,228 accidents occurred in Russia, which is 3.9% more than in the same period last year. Such statistics are provided by the Scientific Center for Road Safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation (NTs BDD). And this despite the fact that not all accidents fall into the statistics of the State traffic inspectorate, but only those in which people were injured. Obviously, even the most careful drivers are not immune from meeting on the road with reckless drivers who ignore traffic rules. And often such “meetings” cause significant damage to cars.

Returning to the growth in the cost of spare parts over the past year, we note that for an ordinary Russian family, if it is necessary to repair a car at their own expense, an increase in potential costs by more than a quarter is probably quite noticeable. The OSAGO policy can save the family budget. Thanks to him, despite the negative trends in the auto parts market and the volatility of the ruble exchange rate, there are no such showdowns on the roads after accidents as in the 90s. Accident participants do not even need to go to the office of the insurance company now — from July 15, 2023, amendments to the legislation provide for electronic settlement of losses under OSAGO if the accident was registered according to the Europrotocol. All necessary documents can be sent through the State Services portal and through the State Services Auto mobile application.

Pyotr Shkumatov said that although the “autocitizenship” policy, like everything around, has risen in price, motorists look at it adequately, understanding what this is due to:

Over the three waves of the study, starting in 2022, the trend towards an increase in those who consider an increase in the price of an OSAGO policy to be absolutely justified and fair and associate the increase in its cost with an increase in prices for spare parts has become clear. This is the opinion of the majority of motorists — 54%. At the same time, in a recent study conducted this summer, the growth was due to those respondents who in the past hesitated with the answer (answered “I don’t know”). At the same time, three-quarters of motorists (75.7%) assess the increase in the price of the policy as insignificant or acceptable relative to their own income. The margin of insignificance of the rise in price is at the figure of 3,000 rubles.

Recall that earlier the PCA reported that in July a record average payment for OSAGO was recorded in 2023 — 93 thousand rubles. At the same time, the average premium for OSAGO last month amounted to 7,860 rubles. Despite the fact that the increase in the average payment “puts pressure” on the average cost of the “auto-citizenship” policy, insurers still manage to “keep prices” — an increase in the average premium for OSAGO compared to the December figure occurred for the first time this year only in July and within 1% .
