Kerch local resident detained for series of property crimes

Criminal investigation officers of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Kerch detained a Kerch resident suspected of theft.
In July of this year, the Kerch police received a number of reports of shoplifting. During operational search activities, police officers detained a previously convicted 57-year-old local resident. The man told the operatives that he had quietly stolen various goods from the shelves of several city stores: tools, household utensils, dishes, etc. He planned to sell the stolen goods and spend the proceeds on personal needs. The total damage amounted to more than 8.5 thousand rubles. Police officers seized some of the stolen goods and returned them to their rightful owners.— the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Crimea noted.
Criminal cases have been initiated under Part 1 and 2 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Theft). The article provides for a maximum penalty of imprisonment for up to 5 years. The defendant has been given a written undertaking not to leave.
