KFU Associate Professor Yulia Kozhukhovskaya won a grant for linguistic research

Associate Professor of the Department of Theory of Language and Literature and Sociolinguistics of the Institute of Philology of the Crimean Federal University Yulia Kozhukhovskaya won a grant from the Russian Science Foundation for the implementation of a project in the field of linguistics and the humanities and social sciences. She was among the winners of the competition «Conducting initiative research by young scientists» of the President’s Program of Research Projects.
The project is aimed at studying ethnic and national identity from the point of view of cognitive linguistics on the material of the Modern Greek language. This problem will be solved on the basis of an anthropocentric approach to the study of language, aimed at analyzing the mechanisms of cognition of the world, which are reflected in the relationship between the language and culture of the people. The grant amounted to 1.443 million rubles until 2024 and 1.4 million rubles until 2025. The project “Linguistic and cognitive aspect of the issue of ethnic and national identity (based on the modern Greek language)” Yulia Kozhukhovskaya is implementing together with two students of the department.
As part of the work, they plan to analyze the language material, consider the process of self-identification of the speakers of the Greek linguistic culture, identify the relationship between the main concepts of the Greek mentality, determine the features of the image of Greece and the Greek people in the media space, and study the ethnic identity of the Thracian Greeks of Crimea. The linguistic culture of the Crimean Greeks differs from mainland and insular Greece.
The results of the study, as well as the developed methods and approaches, will be included in textbooks and lecture courses on the theory and practice of philological research, cultural linguistics, cognitive linguistics, linguistic geography of Crimea, computer modeling of verbal communication, text linguistics, which are taught at the KFU. According to her, it is also planned to publish articles in journals indexed in Scopus, Web of Science and RSCI, as well as in a monograph-anthology of translations of modern Greek poems into Russian and in the final monograph.
The grant will be implemented until 2025.
The initiative projects competition is aimed at supporting young researchers under the age of 33. According to the results of the competition, the Russian Science Foundation supported 431 initiative projects of young scientists with grants of up to two million rubles annually.
