KFU: Crimean Maslin varieties showed a high level of frost resistance

Varieties and breeding forms of olives withdrawn at the Crimean Federal University win the European frost resistance in the European indicator. This was announced by the head of the breeding and seed center of fruit crops KFU named after V.I. Vernadsky Dmitry Ermolin.
Studies have shown that in conditions as close as possible to real ones, Crimean varieties and oil forms can survive frosts up to –14 degrees.
As this year showed, in particular February, when at night the temperature reached 12-14 degrees below zero, the entire sheet apparatus and annual shoots were affected by European varieties, many years of wood remained whole. As for our varieties, only the tops of plants were damaged here. To restore our plants, only sanitary pruning of trees will be needed, and about three years will need to restore European varieties. Naturally, this year this year cannot talk about their fruiting— said Dmitry Ermolin.
Scientists of the Crimean Federal University are working on expanding the Maslin cultivation zone, in particular, at the moment, the possibility of growing a culture in the Sevastopol region is currently considering.
At the moment in the greenhouse of the Crimean Federal University in the village. Three own varieties of Oil, “Forskaya”, “Crimean Spring” and “Tavrika”, as well as seven breeding shapes grow the small Simferopol region.
