KFU expert: the most common injuries in summer

CrimeaPRESS reports:

In the summer season, guests and residents of the peninsula most often have injuries associated with seaside holidays. Hazards include sunstroke, heat injury, and external burns.

A person needs to carefully monitor the time spent on the beach. The most comfortable time to visit: in the morning from 08:00 to 11:00 or after three in the afternoon, when the sun’s rays are not so active. At lunchtime, staying at the sea is undesirable. People who have had a heart attack or stroke, as well as those who have hypertension should be less in the sun— quotes the press service of the head of the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics of the Medical Academy of the Crimean Federal University Andrey Tkach.

When relaxing at sea, special vigilance should be maintained by those who like to dive without seeing the bottom.

The most common injury here is a «diver’s fracture» — damage to the cervical spine, which often leads to damage to the spinal cord. It is dangerous to swim when there are waves: under certain circumstances, they can carry the swimmer back to the sea, no matter how strong he may be — notes the head of the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics.

Swimming on unequipped beaches also leads to various injuries. For example, pins and piles hiding under water can cause significant harm to health. It should be remembered that the use of technical vehicles (catamarans, inflatable boats with a motor) on a sea holiday is possible only after 500 meters from the shore to prevent injuries to people floating in the sea.

In addition to sea recreation, Crimea is also famous for various tourist routes in mountainous and flattering areas. According to Andrey Tkach, it is important for travelers to take into account the rapidly changing weather conditions in the mountains and dress according to the weather. This is especially true of the Ai-Petri plateau, where an unprepared tourist may experience hypothermia. Moreover, you should study the tourist route in detail, register it with the emergency department, choose comfortable shoes and correctly calculate your strength.
