KFU knows how precipitation has affected the yield of grain and fruit crops in Crimea

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Provided that a high level of agricultural technology is ensured and a properly selected system of plant protection against pests and diseases, it is expected that the harvest for the main varieties of fruit crops will not be lower than last year.

Last year was 15% more productive than 2021. Due to the gradual entry of funds subsidized by the federal budget for planting, their area is increasing. And while maintaining approximately the same yield, gross yields in the region will increase— the press service of the university quotes Dmitry Potanin, Associate Professor of the Department of Horticulture and Viticulture of the Agrotechnological Academy of the Crimean Federal University.

According to him, due to frosts in March and February in Belogorsky, Nizhnegorsky, Sovetsky, the southern part of Dzhankoysky, as well as Krasnogvardeysky districts, some damage was observed to pear varieties of southern origin, heat-loving varieties of peaches, and almonds.

Precipitation at the end of May and the first half of June is a feature of our Crimean region. Annually at this time there is a peak of precipitation, which falls during the growing season. This year, high relative humidity favorably affects the development of diseases. Gardeners also need to pay attention to the fact that at high temperatures and relative humidity, herbivorous mites develop, which suck out nutrients from the leaves and young shoots of plants. The peculiarity of this year is that in the gardens a plant protection system must be applied and fungicide treatment must be carried out.says the expert.

In turn, abundant rainfall has a positive effect on grain yields in the Crimea. According to Dmitry Dudarev, Deputy Director for Research at the Agrotechnological Academy of the Crimean Federal University, in some areas of the peninsula, grain filling begins, and the accumulated moisture in the soil, especially in the zone of risky farming, has a beneficial effect, including on late oilseeds, such like a sunflower.
