KFU specialists in the Republic of Kalmykia conducted a scientific and practical expedition

Specialists of the Crimean Federal University named after. V.I. Vernadsky organized a scientific and practical expedition in the Republic of Kalmykia, within the framework of which scientific research was carried out at the Stepnaya uranium mine in the village of Narta. This was reported by the Deputy Director for Science of the Scientific Speleo-Palaeontological Complex “Tavrida Cave” of KFU. V.I. Vernadsky, chairman of the branch of the Russian Geographical Society in the Republic of Crimea Gennady Samokhin.

During the research, scientists took a selection of rocks, water samples from underground mine structures, and carried out express monitoring of background radiation.

Our main idea is to create a peaceful atom museum based on the Stepnaya mine, which could become a potential point of attraction for the development of tourism. We also discussed issues of inter-university interaction within the framework of the Priority 2030 strategic academic leadership program, academic mobility of students, and the development of domestic tourism using the example of our Tavrida Cave complex. In addition to its natural uniqueness, Kalmykia is the largest center of Buddhism in Russia, so we discussed the possibility of creating excursion and tourist routes from Crimea to Elista to explore the sights— said Gennady Samokhin.

As part of the “Springs of Russia” project, scientists examined the mineral spring of the natural monument “Lonely Poplar” and the mineral methane spring “Burning”. Together with the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Republic of Kalmykia and the branch of the Russian Geographical Society in the Republic of Kalmykia, a project of information plates was developed indicating the chemical composition of water and the possibility of its use in balneology.

As part of the expedition, we entered into a preliminary agreement to conduct educational environmental education practices and volunteer schools at the bases of the Mekletinsky reserve and the Black Lands reserve. The final stage of the trip was a scientific and practical meeting at the Kalmyk State University named after B. B. Gorodovikov, where the participants gave recommendations for the further development and promotion of projects of students and young scientists of Kalm State University, and agreed to hold an exhibition of paintings by artists of the Crimean Federal University on the basis of the university. the results of a plein air tour of Pushkin’s places within the framework of the project “You are beautiful, the shores of Taurida!” The exhibition will be held at the Elista Local History Museum.
