KFU specialists know the height of the Uchan-Su waterfall in Crimea
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Specialists from the Crimean Federal University found that the height of Uchan-Su, the highest waterfall in Crimea, is 114.1 meters. Previously it was believed that the height of the waterfall was 98 meters. The measuring work was carried out at the request of the Yalta Mountain Forest Reserve.
The work was carried out with a Sokkia CX-105 electronic tachometer and a Prin X91 satellite geodetic receiver.
According to the tachometer, the height of the waterfall is 114.1 meters. The inflection line on the subhorizontal area where the stones lie was taken as the bottom of the waterfall. According to satellites, it turned out to be from 114 to 120 meters, but the tachometer is definitely more accurate— the press service of the university quotes Gennady Samokhin, senior lecturer at the Faculty of Geography, Geoecology and Tourism of the Crimean Federal University.
Let us remind you that earlier employees of the institutions “NBS-NSC” and “Reserve Crimea” took measurements and determined that the height of Uchan-Su is 116 meters.
These measurements were made using a navigation device, and a GPS navigator in the conditions of the gorge operates with a large error. Our measurements, carried out using a satellite device, also gave results with a large error. Why are tachometer measurements more accurate? Firstly, because the device itself allows you to take measurements with a minimum error of millimeters, and secondly, we applied our own more accurate methodologynotes Gennady Samokhin.
In the near future, specialists from the Crimean Federal University will prepare an official justification for the results obtained.
