KFU student assembled a laser machine at home

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Graduate student of the Crimean Federal University Artyom Konshin assembled a CNC laser machine at home.

This idea came to me in my first year. I saw a YouTube video of the assembly of a diode laser machine. At first I decided to repeat it, but in the process of modeling I realized that it was quite simple. And I wanted to do something more difficult. Therefore, I took a more powerful laser , — the press service of the university Artyom Konshin quotes.

There is carbon dioxide inside the laser tube of the machine. It emits an infrared laser beam and directs it to the material with a system of mirrors. A laser head moves along the entire perimeter of the machine, in which there is a lens — it focuses the beam. This is how cutting happens. The process takes -25 minutes.

The machine is already running and ready to use. It can engrave and cut leather, plastic, glass and plywood. The maximum working surface area is two meters per meter.

The student studies at the Institute of Physics and Technology, and also works as a leading engineer in the FabLab Digital Creativity Laboratory of KFU. Artyom says that his inventive thinking and love for details were formed in his childhood: at an early age, instead of toys, he solved puzzles and assembled construction sets. But it took two years to implement a large-scale project. The student bought all the details or created them himself — he printed them from plastic on a 3D printer.

The cost of the machine was -15 thousand rubles.

The student has already launched the production of souvenirs: he makes custom-made lamps with individual engraving.
