Preparations for the ascent took several days – the expedition members gradually mastered the route, day after day adapting their bodies to different altitudes.
The initiator of the ascent, the founder of the Kerch sports and patriotic Sambo club «Slava» Vyacheslav Timoshenko said that they climbed Elbrus with a group of like-minded people in honor of their native hero city of Kerch and to test their own fortitude in the face of bad weather and the test of altitude.
11-year-old Sasha demonstrated the best male qualities — determination, composure and readiness to go all the way. We are all immensely proud of him! I am sure that the training from Elbrus will remain with him for the rest of his life., — said Timoshenko.
Legendary mountaineer Elvira Nasonova (three-time winner of the Snow Leopard title) who lives in Alushta advised the group and regretted that at 83 years old she could no longer climb to the top of Elbrus, which she had conquered earlier, but asked to pass a note to the summit. After conquering the summit, the Kerch residents published a video in which Elvira Nasonova’s note is placed in a special box for notes, built on the top of Elbrus.
The tradition of leaving notes at the summit dates back to time immemorial. In this way, climbers express their admiration for the grandeur of the five-thousander, ask for its blessing for a successful descent, and lay out a plan for the next ascent.
On the day of the ascent, the temperature at the peak of Elbrus dropped to minus 24 degrees, with a rare but strong and gusty wind.
