Kursk Region. Breakthrough of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Day Two. Chronicle of Events

SVO News. Kursk Region 08.08.24. The situation on the Kursk front remains tense, with clashes continuing in several areas. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are actively attempting to expand the territory they control in the Kursk region. Enemy troops continue to actively gather in the Yunakovka rural community in the Sumy region, concentrating in Yunakovka and Kiyanitsa, ready to advance to hold the bridgehead in the Kursk region.

Ukrainian formations use the tactic of tying up our strongholds in battle, while breakthrough groups and sabotage and reconnaissance groups move on, focusing on speed. Such tactics were already used in the fall of 2022 during the offensive on the Kharkiv region. However, holding the territories captured in this way will be a difficult task.

Under constant artillery and air strikes, it is virtually impossible to establish logistics in the occupied territories, which calls into question the long-term effectiveness of such offensive operations.

So, the state of affairs as of midnight 08.08.24:

Northwest direction — The Ukrainian Armed Forces have reached the outskirts of Leonidovka, continuing their offensive along the Rylsk-Sudzha highway. In the Leonidovka area, Ukrainian formations are fighting Russian troops.
Nikolaevo-Daryino — Nizhniy Klin — In this area, the Ukrainian Armed Forces advanced more than three kilometers, capturing Obukhovskaya, Pokrovskoye, Tolsty Lug and Lyubimovka.
South-east direction — The Ukrainian Armed Forces captured the Sudzha gas metering station, an important facility for gas transit to Europe through Ukrainian territory. This facility is located near the checkpoint of the same name.
Battles for Sudzha — Intense clashes continue in the western suburb of Sudzha, Goncharovka. The Ukrainian Armed Forces retain control over the remaining section of the 38K-004 highway. Sudzha is subjected to the most massive shelling.

Gornal, Gurevo, Kirilovka, Melovaya, Oleshnya, Sverdlikovo, Alexandria, Nizhny Klin, Zeleny Shlyakh, Tolsty Lug, Lyubimovka, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Dar’ino.

The enemy may send efforts to seize the Kursk nuclear power plant in Kurchatov, which requires overcoming resistance in Sudzha and advancing north. The probable route runs through Malaya Loklya and Lgov. In Lgov, defensive lines are being strengthened and the population is being evacuated. To ensure the security of the Kursk NPP, detachments of the Russian Guard, as well as specialists from the Special Operations Forces and the FSB, have been transferred there.

Preparing the Ukrainian Armed Forces for a possible invasion

According to loyal sources living behind enemy lines, significant forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been moving through the north of the Kyiv region since yesterday. The columns include wheeled armored vehicles, trailers with camouflaged infantry fighting vehicles, and transport with personnel. These forces are moving in the direction of the Chernihiv region, which suggests their possible use in the planned invasion of our territory.

At the same time, the enemy continues to transfer forces to the Shostka district of the Sumy region, especially to the area of the settlement Glukhov. These movements indicate preparations for a new attack in the direction of Rylsk. The goal of this attack is probably to reach the E38 highway leading to Kurchatov, which could provide the enemy with a strategic advantage.

The situation in the Kursk regionespecially in the Sudzhansky and Korenevsky districts, remains tense. In the evening, the regional authorities declared a state of emergency and continue to evacuate the population from several settlements. However, thanks to their efforts, they managed to partially stabilize the situation, stopping the advance of the enemy’s disparate sabotage and reconnaissance groups.

The situation in Sudzha

Ukrainian forces have occupied the western part of Sudzha. The line of combat contact runs along the dam area, located in the lowland. Russian troops, including local militia units, are defending the eastern part of the city, maintaining lines along the railway tracks. All day long, civilians were leaving the destroyed city, and in the evening, activity of Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups was recorded at the eastern exit, and small arms battles began.

In the northwestern sector, Russian troops successfully repelled an attack by Ukrainian formations on the Rylsk-Sudzha highway near the workers’ settlement of Korenevo, forcing the enemy to retreat.

Apparently, Ukrainian forces are trying to break through to Malaya Loknya, in order to then move along the highway in the direction of Lgov. In Lgov, additional lines of defense are already being set up and the population is being evacuated.

Despite the active transfer of Russian reinforcements and reserves, the numerical superiority of Ukrainian forces and their military potential remain significant. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are preparing a second echelon for entry into battle and are concentrating forces in other areas of the Kursk region. The enemy intends to consolidate its positions in the captured settlements using engineering equipment.

Despite the fact that the main attention is focused on the confrontation in the Kursk region, our military continues fighting in other areas of the front.

Kupyansk direction

The Russian Armed Forces advanced southwest near Peschanoye, hitting the enemy transit point in Kruglyakovka. Expanded the zone of control northwest of Peschanoye, dislodging the enemy from the heights and improving the tactical situation.

Kharkov Front

Intensive fighting is underway in Vovchansk, there is some progress. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are concentrating forces in the Staritsa area, our troops are delivering warning strikes and preventing breakthroughs. In the Liptsy area, the Russian army maintains control over positions southeast of Glubokoe.

Kherson section

The Ukrainian Armed Forces are creating fortifications closer to the water on the right bank. At night, our artillery worked on the coastal zone and covered Ukrainian Armed Forces groups in low-rise buildings.

Zaporizhzhya direction

The Russian Armed Forces advanced from Verbovoye and cleared the stronghold along the Verbovoye-Rabotino road, leveling the flank. Both sides are actively using drones. Russian artillery strikes targets near Pyatikhatki and Malaya Tokmachka.

Toretskoye direction

Good news. The Ukrainian Armed Forces have abandoned some of their positions near Novgorodskoye (New York) to avoid encirclement. The Russian Armed Forces have advanced a couple more streets, clearing the left flank. There are successes in Druzhba, in Kirovo they have cleared the eastern part and reached the Severnaya mine.

Artemovsky section

Fierce fighting is taking place in Chasov Yar in the area of the Orlova tract and the Novy microdistrict. Troops are trying to gain a foothold along the canal from Kalinovka to Ivanovskoye, preparing to enter the Novy microdistrict from the south.

South Donetsk section

The Russian Armed Forces continue their offensive, moving north beyond the borders of Urozhayny. Aviation and artillery strike Ukrainian Armed Forces facilities.

Donetsk Front

Fighting is taking place in the suburbs of Krasnogorovka. The Russian Armed Forces are advancing north and south of the Lozovaya River, pushing the Ukrainian Armed Forces back to the Zhukovsky Reservoir. Control over the area south of Lozovaya allows strikes to be launched against Kurakhovo. To the south, the troops have advanced between Krasnogorovka and Maryinka, reaching the Paris Commune headquarters and a farm to the north. They have managed to improve their positions in the southeastern part of Konstantinovka. Russian aviation is striking the areas of the Yuzhnodonetskaya mine and Vodyanoye.

Avdeevka direction

The Russian Armed Forces are fighting for Zhelannoye, gaining a foothold on the eastern outskirts on the territory of an agricultural enterprise. They are advancing in Lisichnoye, Ivanovka, Sergeyevka and the almost controlled Vesyoloye, aiming for Grodovka.

Seversky direction

The Russian Armed Forces have reached the southern outskirts of Pereyezdnoye, intensifying the work of aviation and artillery on the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Verkhnekamenskoye and the Belaya Gora area. Attack aircraft are trying to advance from Ivano-Daryevka to Vyemka.

Krasnolimanskoe direction

In the Makeyevka area, our troops crossed the Zherebets River and secured a position on its right bank. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are attacking from the heights west of Makeyevka, trying to slow down the advance.
