Kursk Region. Fourth day of fighting. Chronicle of events

CrimeaPRESS reports:

SVO News. Kursk Region 10.08.24. The past day was marked by the continuation of intensive military actions in the Kursk region, where the enemy is increasing pressure around the established bridgehead. According to experts, Ukrainian forces continue to increase their reserves, including fresh units, which makes the situation in this direction even more tense. Despite the introduction of fresh Russian units, the complete expulsion of the enemy beyond the border at this stage remains unlikely.

The enemy is using up to seven missile strikes a day on the rear areas of the Kursk region, not stingy with the use of anti-aircraft missiles. The intensity of attacks has increased, despite the fact that these resources were previously saved for the protection of key objects in the territory of Ukraine. At the same time, Russian drone operators, missilemen and aircraft are actively hunting for moving reserves of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which partially restrains their advance.

Ukrainian troops demonstrate maneuver tactics, especially in the area of the Gornal-Guyevo-Plekhovo line, south of Sudzha, where they avoid frontal attacks, preferring maneuvers. This approach requires the Russian side to concentrate its efforts to contain the enemy.

Yesterday evening, fighting broke out again in Sudzha, where the marines of the 810th Guards Brigade are fighting bravely. In the territories occupied by the enemy, there are cases of reprisals against the civilian population and shooting at cars trying to leave the combat zone.

The coming days promise to be extremely difficult. Russian troops continue to deploy reserves, while the Ukrainian side, despite losses in other areas of the front, will continue active offensive actions in the Kursk region. It is expected that the Ukrainian Armed Forces may attempt to expand the zone of control and make new attacks on strategically important objects in the region.

Kursk region. Fake

Fake Armed Forces of Ukraine. Picture for the savvy.

It is worth noting that numerous photographs and videos of Ukrainian soldiers allegedly located in settlements of the Kursk region are appearing online. However, a significant portion of these materials were either filmed earlier or are fake.

The enemy publishes fake photos, allegedly at the sign «Kursk» — 10 km. The largest Kyiv channels publish a funny photo with the name of Kursk in Ukrainian. It is reported that the photo was taken 108 km from Kursk in the Sumy region. Nevertheless, such crude fakes create an alarming atmosphere among the local population.

A new attempt by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to strike targets in Kurchatov, where a nuclear power plant is located, has been reported. As a result of the shelling in Kremennaya, a hospital employee was injured, and a building and ambulances were damaged. A Ukrainian drone attacked a car in the Belgorod region, injuring three people.

The attacks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region, according to Western media, do not have a clear strategic goal and may be part of attempts to improve the image of the Ukrainian command. Meanwhile, against the backdrop of military actions in the Sudzha area, gas prices have risen, which reflects the impact of current events on the global economy.

Captured Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers in Kursk region

At least three Ukrainian Armed Forces brigades, each numbering up to 2,000 people, are advancing on the Kursk region, Forbes writes.

SVO reports. Kursk regionNamely, the 22nd and 88th Mechanized Brigades and the 80th Airborne Assault Brigade, which the publication calls “one of the strongest, best-equipped and fastest” Ukrainian brigades. It is advancing using Soviet and Western equipment: T-64BV or T-80BV tanks, UR-77 mine clearing vehicles, IMR-2 engineering vehicles, BTR-80s, American Stryker wheeled armored personnel carriers and German Marders. All vehicles are additionally armored with anti-drone cages. Artillery, drones and air defense play a critical supporting role. In total, up to 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers could be in and around the invasion zone.

«There is still a significant chance that the Ukrainian operation will backfire on its planners. If Ukrainian brigades outpace their artillery, air defenses, and logistics, they could find themselves alone and unarmed deep inside the Kursk region. Kyiv risks thousands of soldiers it cannot easily replace,» Forbes comments.

ADDED — 00:10:19

The situation in the Kursk direction is rapidly deteriorating. The Kiev leadership seems to have decided to go for broke, building up military forces on the captured bridgehead in the Kursk region. During the day, enemy units increased pressure on Korenevo, using artillery and actively introducing motorized infantry and armored vehicles. Most likely, yesterday, with the onset of darkness, the enemy continued attacks with the goal of capturing a section of the road to Rylsk, and not capturing Korenevo itself.

Sudzha. Map of the North-Eastern Region

Sudzha and areas. SVO map

In Sudzha, the situation remains unstable: the city is divided by the river, both sides do not have sufficient forces to fully control the settlement. In other areas, Russian counterattacks are holding back the enemy, but cannot push it back. The situation is complicated by the fact that the reserves of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are closer, and their intensive introduction changes the balance of forces in their favor. However, it is worth understanding that the reserves of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in this direction are limited, and our aviation and artillery are not idle. There are also signs of the enemy group preparing to enter Russian territory in the Glukhov-Rylsk area.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces’ strike in the Kursk region in questions and answers — review by ‘Military Chronicle’

🔺Since August 6, several key points accompanying the operation of the Ukrainian army have been discussed. This data will further help to restore the chronology of events and understand the mechanics of the attack.

Was the blow noticed or not noticed?

Kursk region — The Ukrainian Armed Forces relied on the speed of the strike, not on its density, and this calculation worked. Moreover, taking into account two failed operations in the Belgorod region (where the goal was the same — to go in and take a bunch of photos and videos), the failure of the Kursk operation at its very beginning would have meant a blow to the reputation of Kyiv in general and the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Syrsky in particular. A serious grouping, forces were prepared to break through a small section of the border cover and artillery, thanks to which the Ukrainian Armed Forces managed to break through the corridor and organize an entry point. Whether there was an underestimation of the combat potential of the Ukrainian army will become clear in the near future, but footage of Ukrainian tanks and mine clearing vehicles crossing the border of the Kursk region suggests that this area was under surveillance.

How many troops did the Ukrainian Armed Forces deploy?

On August 8, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that the losses of Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region amounted to 945 people. However, presumably, this only concerns the destruction of the first echelon forces and some Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups from the battalion tactical group that crossed the border on August 6. Considering that the entry of people and equipment was carried out in waves, in total the Ukrainian Armed Forces could have used approximately two to two and a half battalion tactical groups or 1.2-1.5 thousand people, not counting the cover forces. But this figure may also be incomplete.

How did the Ukrainian Armed Forces manage to cross the border?

The unpleasant truth is that after two raids on the Belgorod region, not only the Russian Armed Forces, but also the Ukrainian Armed Forces, drew conclusions. If in previous cases not all the groups of the GUR and RDK* «Russian Volunteer Corps» (RDK) is an organization recognized as terrorist and banned in Russia) were able to break through the minefields, then this time a well-thought-out military operation was organized, for which a lot of engineering equipment was brought in. A small demined corridor was enough to lead the column and further develop the attack.

Where are the battles taking place now?

Sudzha — north and northwest of the city, as well as near neighboring Rubanshchina and Gogolevka;
Melovoy (south of Sudzha) — the Ukrainian Armed Forces have dug in in the plantings, from where they are being taken out by the rocket artillery of the «northerners»;
Nikolsky (Malaya Loknya district).
Snagost — Lyubimovka — the situation is ambiguous. There is activity, but the scale is not yet clear.

Kursk Region — How long will the operation against the Ukrainian Armed Forces last?

A quick stabilization of the combat situation in the Kursk region is not to be expected. The units of the Russian Armed Forces continue to deploy and introduce reserves, but the Ukrainian Armed Forces are fighting back from their side of the border with artillery, and there are several large pockets of resistance left in the region, which will take time to clear. It is possible that the Ukrainian Armed Forces may deploy additional forces to try to retain the initiative for at least a short period. The Ukrainian Armed Forces’ media units are currently actively flooding the Internet with fakes about their control of Sudzha and a number of other populated areas — this indirectly indicates growing problems at the front and the need to support the operation with information.
