SVO News. Kursk direction 16.08.24 (updated). Over the past 24 hours, the front has seen high levels of combat activity, especially in the Kursk direction. Ukrainian troops have made a number of attempts to improve their positions, but have encountered fierce resistance from Russian units, which have successfully repelled the attacks and inflicted significant losses on the enemy.

  Sudzhansky district (30 km from Sudzha): In the Sudzhansky district, Russian troops continued their offensive actions, attacking enemy positions in the settlements of Yuzhnoye, Zaoleshenka and Mirnoye. Active combat operations are underway on the approaches to Martynovka, the settlement itself, according to the latest data, has been cleared by our units and near the village of Agronom.

  Ukrainian forces publish video footage from the western and central parts of Sudzha, but there is no information from the eastern outskirts of the city, which may indicate that Russian troops control this territory. West of Sudzha, the Ukrainian Armed Forces maintain a presence in the area of ​​the First Popadya gully, Rubanshchyna and Zaoleshenka, which some sources attribute to the city itself. Mobile groups of the Ukrainian army continue to move here.

• Korenevsky district (20 km from Sudzha): Russian troops attacked Ukrainian Armed Forces positions in the settlements of Snagost, Olhivka, Uspenka and Matveyevka. In the area of ​​Kremyannoye, an attempt by Ukrainian forces to break through Russian lines was successfully repelled. Lancet UAV operators hit a Ukrainian Armed Forces Kazak armored vehicle in Lyubimovka. In addition, Ukrainian forces tried to advance in the direction of Sheptukhovka and Kauchuk, but their attacks were unsuccessful.

• Belovsky district (40 km from Sudzha): In the Belovsky district, Russian forces carried out a cleanup of the settlement of Krupets. Earlier, there were reports of fighting in the area of ​​Kamyshnoye, located several kilometers east of Krupets, where fighting continues at the moment. Fighting for Spalnoye has begun.
• ▪️In the Glushkovsky district, the Ukrainian Armed Forces tried to attack Glushkovo from the east. Attempts to attack from the south, from the Obody side, are likely. Such a strike carries the risk of encircling our units southeast of Glushkovo. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are also not abandoning their attempts to destroy the bridge in Glushkovo across the Seim River.
• Mogritsa (30 km from the border): In the Mogritsa area, 30 kilometers from the border, a Ukrainian HIMARS MLRS installation, which had previously been used to shell the bridge in Glushkovo, was destroyed. As a result of a direct hit, an explosion of ammunition was recorded, which led to the complete destruction of the installation.
• Lgovsky district (50 km from Sudzha): In the Lgov district, Ukrainian troops shelled the administrative center twice using missiles with cluster munitions. As a result of the attacks, four civilians were injured, two of whom were hospitalized. Civilian infrastructure and residential buildings were damaged.

Kursk region, settlement Spalnoe

A reinforced Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group entered the village, tried to consolidate, but with varying success. The footage shows the 382nd separate marine regiment, the 810th separate guards marine brigade (city of Sevastopol) working on enemy personnel.

The enemy continues to launch chaotic artillery and mortar strikes on residential areas, causing harm to civilians. During the day, shelling of the settlements of Glushkovo, Novy Put and Tetkino in the Glushkovo direction was recorded. The enemy has also intensified the use of aviation against Russian positions, which indicates attempts to increase pressure on the front line.

There have been cases of Ukrainian forces using HIMARS MLRS against civilian targets. In particular, in Lgov, rocket fire resulted in injuries among local residents. These actions by the Ukrainian military highlight the ongoing threat to civilians in the conflict zone.

Overall, the situation on the front remains tense, but Russian troops retain control over key areas and continue to hold off enemy attacks. The enemy has suffered significant losses and its attempts to break through the defensive lines have been unsuccessful.

Fierce confrontation continues in the battles for Krasnogorovka, but the Ukrainian Armed Forces have not yet been completely driven out of the city.

Sviridonovka, Orlovka, Nikolaevka, most of Zhuravka and Novotoretskoye were also taken under the control of Russian troops.   Toretskoye direction — Russian troops have liberated Zheleznoye, adjacent to Toretsk in the south, and have advanced to the outskirts of Sukha Balka. • Zaporizhzhya direction — The Ukrainian Armed Forces are strengthening their positions near Orekhov, increasing the number of armored vehicles and conducting reconnaissance. At night, a column of fuel trucks arrived in the city of Zaporizhia, probably to refuel armored vehicles on the front line.
• Sumy region — In Lubny, a Russian Iskander hit a column of 15 Ukrainian tankers and destroyed an American HIMARS that was striking the Kursk region.
