Kursk region. The situation on 10/16/24, today. SVO map. The approaching autumn thaw is making serious adjustments to the course of military operations in the Kursk direction. Constant rain and fog significantly complicate the work of drone operators, leading to interruptions in reconnaissance and supply of troops. Soggy roads impede the movement of equipment, but at the same time provide an opportunity for Russian forces to rotate forward units and strengthen strongholds. Despite the weather difficulties, the Russian Army continues to increase the pace of its offensive, especially on the Novoivanovka-Malaya Loknya line. The enemy is resisting fiercely.

Since the beginning of hostilities in the Kursk direction, the Russian Armed Forces have liberated 468 square meters. km of territory, which demonstrates a stable pace of advance. Particularly significant progress was achieved in September, when the average daily rate of liberation of territories increased to 15.6 square meters. km, which significantly exceeds August figures. In October, the Russian army maintains its momentum, having already liberated 40 square meters. km during the second stage of the counteroffensive. It is expected that with improving weather conditions, the pace of the attack will increase even more.

Russian troops continue their successful offensive in the Kursk direction, maintaining the initiative and striking enemy positions. Recently they completely cleared populated areas from Ukrainian forces Vesyoloye, Medvezhye, Obukhovka and surrounding areas. These successes create the preconditions for the formation of new encirclements of enemy units, which significantly weakens the defensive capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in this area.

Novoivanovka and Malaya Loknya

After active battles for Lyubimovka and Tolsty Lugthe main efforts of the Russian army are shifting in the direction of Novoivanovka and Malaya Loknya. In Novoivanovka, Russian forces almost completely knocked out the enemy, leaving only the eastern outskirts under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The enemy understands the importance of this line and continues to bring up reserves. At the same time, in Malaya Lokna the Ukrainian Armed Forces are still holding the line, but with the loss of positions in Novoivanovka the situation may become more complicated for them. In the event of a breakthrough by the Russian army in the Leonidovo area, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will be in danger of being surrounded.

Battles for Leonidovo

Leonidovo becomes the next important point for the Russian army. If we manage to capture this village, it will be possible to reach the flank of the Ukrainian forces defending Malaya Loknyawhich will significantly strengthen the position of the Russian army. The enemy continues to launch counterattacks to hold this important line, but the prospects for his further resistance here remain doubtful.

Counterattack of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Green Way

Yesterday during the day, Ukrainian forces launched a powerful counterattack along the Sudzhan highway aimed at returning Green Way. According to preliminary data, up to a company of infantry, supported by several tanks, is participating in the attack. This is one of the enemy’s strongest counterattacks in the last few days. If they manage to capture this population center, it could significantly complicate the Russian offensive in the area.

Weather continues to play an important role in the Kursk direction. The mud makes movement difficult for both the Russian Armed Forces and the Ukrainian Armed Forces, but in the long term this factor is more harmful to the Ukrainian troops, who find themselves in a vulnerable position due to the disruption of their communications. In such conditions, the threat of encirclement of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in several areas, including Leonidovo and Malaya Loknya, is becoming more and more real. Russian troops continue to use the current situation to strengthen their positions and advance slowly but surely.

In the coming days, the key points will remain Novoivanovka, Leonidovo and Malaya Loknya. Success in these areas will open up new opportunities for encircling the Ukrainian Armed Forces and further advancement of the Russian army in this direction.

Kursk region — enemy losses

According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, during active hostilities in the Kursk direction, the Ukrainian side suffered significant losses. According to the latest data, more than 23,150 enemy troops were destroyed, as well as 158 tanks, 72 infantry fighting vehicles and 100 armored personnel carriers. In addition, Russian forces destroyed 918 armored fighting vehicles, 632 vehicles and 189 artillery pieces. Losses also included 37 multiple launch rocket systems (including nine HIMARS and six MLRS, made in the United States), nine anti-aircraft launchers, five transport-loading vehicles and 48 electronic warfare stations.

The enemy lost nine counter-battery radar stations and three air defense systems, as well as 22 pieces of engineering equipment, including 13 mine clearing vehicles and an UR-77 mine clearing unit. Three armored repair and recovery vehicles were also destroyed. These losses significantly weaken the enemy’s combat capabilities, which allows Russian troops to maintain the initiative in this direction.
