CrimeaPRESS reports:

Kursk region. The situation on 07.10.24. SVO map. On August 6, 2024, the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched a massive attack on the Kursk region, using mobile assault groups. After two months of fighting, the city of Sudzha and several settlements in the surrounding area remained under their control.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces managed to create a new bridgehead in the area of the village of Vesyoloye, south of Glushkovo. However, as a result of counterattacks by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the area under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces was reduced to 822 km², which is 142 km² less than on September 6, when this figure was 964 km².

At the moment, the situation in the Kursk region remains extremely tense. The total length of the front line in this area is about 112 kilometers. Ukrainian forces hold a strip of about 47 km from south to north and 29.5 km from west to east. According to operational data from the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Ukrainian group on these lines numbers about 30 thousand people, which is equivalent to about two and a half Soviet-era motorized rifle divisions.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces grouping includes 12 infantry and one tank brigade, which creates a high concentration of troops on a relatively small section of the front — about 8 km per formation. However, this troop density significantly exceeds the standard norms recommended by NATO, where an infantry brigade is recommended to maintain a defense line of no more than 20 km.

Ukrainian troops continue to hold a number of settlements, but Russian forces are actively conducting counterattacks and regaining control over previously lost territories. Fierce hostilities are unfolding along the entire front, including key areas of the Glushkovsky and Korenevsky directions.

Russian troops repelled an attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the village of Vesyoloye, in which up to a platoon of Ukrainian troops participated. As a result of successful counterattacks by Russian forces, it was possible to restore control over a number of positions in the Medvezhiy area; it is likely that the enemy was partially destroyed and thrown back towards the Sumy region.

Ukrainian troops, using forest belts southeast of Vesely, use unmanned aerial vehicles for reconnaissance and strikes on Russian positions. However, Russian artillery effectively fires at enemy units, regularly destroying equipment and personnel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

At the same time, Ukrainian sources report that the Russian Armed Forces carried out a counterattack and captured two strong points near Vesely. However, the activity of the Ukrainian Armed Forces remains in the southern part of the Glushkovsky district, in the Tyotkino region, although for now the Ukrainian army in this area is predominantly conducting defensive actions.

In the Dibrova area, an M777 howitzer was destroyed, which was firing at Russian positions. Strikes were also carried out on positions of Ukrainian troops in Volfino, Bondarevshchina and Katerynivkawhich significantly slowed down the advance of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in this sector of the front.

Ukrainian formations have repeatedly tried to break through Russian defenses in the area Kamyshevki and Plekhovohowever, all attacks were repelled. Russian aviation and artillery continue to strike Ukrainian rear targets in the settlements of Guevo, Melovoe and Kolmakovo. The destruction of the infrastructure used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to supply and transport reserves weakens the offensive potential of Ukrainian forces.

Over the past 24 hours, units of Russian troops repulsed two attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the direction Obukhovka.

In the Suji area Russian aviation regularly attacks enemy troop concentrations in the populated areas of Russkoye Porechnoye, Bogdanovka and Kolmakovo. Intense clashes continue at the Borki-Plekhovo line.

At the Korenevsky site forest areas are being cleaned up at the front. Russian forces continue to advance, especially in areas south of Kremyana, Sheptukhovka and Lyubimovka. However, the offensive actions of the Russian Armed Forces have not yet produced tangible results, despite the active use of aviation, artillery and drones.

General situation on the fronts

In recent weeks More and more analytical materials and reports from various sources indicate the critical situation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Numerous Western and Ukrainian military experts focus on problems such as a significant shortage of reserves, mass desertion, and failures in mobilization campaigns, which aggravate the combat situation at the front.

Russian troops continue their offensive, creating the threat of breaking through the defenses and further advancing deeper into the territory defended by the enemy. If the Russian army implements a plan to reach the borders of the Dnieper and Zaporozhye, this will be a serious blow to the logistics and combat effectiveness of the Ukrainian troops, and will also pose a threat to the retention of large industrial centers in southeastern Ukraine.

It is especially worth noting the failures of Ukrainian units in certain sectors of the front, for example, near Ugledar. The 72nd brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces suffered significant losses, and its retreat shows the critical state of many Ukrainian units, which leads to the collapse of Kyiv’s entire defensive strategy.
