Laptop repair “through an acquaintance”: a resident of Sevastopol was left without equipment and without money

Sevastopol police detained a man suspected of fraudulently stealing a laptop and money from his friend. The material damage caused as a result of his illegal actions amounted to more than 25 thousand rubles.
It was established that a 25-year-old resident of Sevastopol, in a conversation with her 30-year-old friend, said that her laptop suddenly stopped working and she needed repair services. The man said that he knew specialists in this field and volunteered to help. On his advice, the girl gave her computer for repair and paid almost 11 thousand rubles to purchase components. However, a few days later, her friend had a criminal intent: he came to the service center and said that his friend did not want to repair the gadget and demanded that it be returned along with the money. Having received what he demanded, the man disappeared. He spent the proceeds from crime on entertainment— the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol gave details.
The girl found out that she had become a victim of deception when she came to pick up her laptop from repair. The victim filed a complaint about the theft of her property to the police.
As a result of operational search activities, employees of the criminal investigation department of the Department of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Leninsky district detained the suspect and seized the stolen equipment. A criminal case has been initiated against the detainee under Part 2 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Fraud”), he faces up to 5 years in prison.
