Analysts from the travel service tutu found out where couples will go on February 14 — Moscow, St. Petersburg and Istanbul led the top cities. Experts studied data on air and rail travel of Russian couples for the period February 13-14, 2024.

The majority of travel is planned within Russia – destinations within the country account for 84.5% of air ticket bookings and 97.9% of train ticket purchases. Only 15.5% of Russian couples go abroad by plane, and only 2.1% by train. The top 10 most popular air destinations in Russia are headed by Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Kaliningrad and Mineralnye Vody. The share of passengers to the capital is 22.6%, to St. Petersburg – 12.1%, to Sochi – 9.3%, to Kaliningrad – 5.1%, to Mineralnye Vody – 4%. Russian couples also gather in Murmansk (3%), Irkutsk (2%), Samara (1.7%), Tyumen (1.7%), Krasnoyarsk (1.7%)— reported the press service of the service.

Popular foreign destinations include Istanbul, Almaty, Baku, Dubai and Minsk. Istanbul accounts for 13.1% of air ticket bookings, Almaty – 11.5%, Baku – 8.2%, Dubai – 8.2%, Minsk – 6.6%.

Tutu analysts note that in 2023, the number of travelers who use the booking service has increased — it allows you to fix the price of an air ticket. They also buy tickets with the possibility of a 100% refund if the trip suddenly has to be rescheduled.

Russian couples will travel by train to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnodar, Adler and Rostov-on-Don. The share of passengers to the capital is 24.3%, to St. Petersburg – 12.2%, to Krasnodar – 4.4%, to Adler – 3.8%, to Rostov-on-Don – 3.2%. Tickets to Sochi (3.1%), Simferopol (3%), Yekaterinburg (2.1%), Novosibirsk (1.3%) and Voronezh (1.3%) are also in demand.

According to tutu analysts, in 2023 the number of train ticket buyers in the app increased by 32%, and the share of purchased train tickets increased by 27%. Travelers are also increasingly looking at train reviews and ratings before deciding to buy a ticket. The number of users who issue train tickets in advance and pay for it later has also increased.
