Three medals were won by the Crimean freestyle wrestlers at the last -26 June in Kyzyl (Republic of Tuva) Russian championship. «Gold» and two «silver» — a historical achievement of the Crimeans for the entire time of participation in these freestyle wrestling competitions.
Master of Sports of Russia Malik Shavaev from Simferopol defended the title of national champion in the weight category up to 16 kg. Last year, the pupil of Arsen Zakuev, Ignat Grek and Edem Muratov took the title for the first time at the Russian Championship in Ulan-Ude (Buryatia). This time, in the 1/8 finals, Malik coped with Akhmed Usmanov from Dagestan (7:4), in the quarterfinals in the last action (score — 3:3) he passed the bronze medalist of the World Championship — 2019 Radika Valieva from North Ossetia-Alania defeated Begkhan Misrikhanov from Dagestan (6:1) in the semi-finals, and Magomed Magomaev representing the Bryansk region (6:4) in the final. The silver medalists of the championship were the brothers Anzor and Azamat Zakuev (both also from Simferopol and train under the guidance of Arsen Zakuev, Ignat Grek and Edem Muratov) , reports Krymsky Sport.
Master of sports of international class Anzor Zakuev excelled in the category up to 70 kg. In the 1/16 final Anzor confidently dealt with Kezhik Chymba from the Krasnoyarsk Territory (: 4), in the 1/8 finals he was stronger than Kirill Korneev from the Kemerovo region (4: 1), in the quarterfinals he defeated the European champion-2020 Kurban Shiraev from Dagestan (5:0), and in the semi-finals — over Abdulla Akhmedov from St. Petersburg (9:6). And only in the tense final fight, the Crimean, unfortunately, lost to the European champion — 2021 Israil Kasumov from the Krasnoyarsk Territory (3:6).
Master of Sports of Russia Azamat Zakuev took silver in weight up to 92 kg. In qualifying, Azamat defeated Alan Pliev from North Ossetia-Alania (2:1), in the 1/8 and 1/4 finals he knocked out his fellow countrymen from Simferopol Marat Zanikoev (5:2) and Alushta Guram Chertkoev (3:1) respectively , in the semi-finals he coped with one of the strongest wrestlers in this category — the champion of Europe — 92, the bronze medalist of the World Championship — 2017, multiple champion and prize-winner of Russian championships Vladislav Valiev from North Ossetia-Alania (2:1). In the final, to create another sensation — to defeat the European champion and silver medalist of the world championship last year, Magomed Kurbanov from Dagestan — our fellow countryman, alas, failed. Kurbanov won (2:0) and became the champion.
It should be noted that the already mentioned Guram Chertkoev, through the “consolation”, made it to the “small final” (battle for the “bronze”), in which he lost to Vladislav Valiev (0: 7).
Soslan Khinchagov from Alushta (up to 26 kg) reached the quarterfinals, in which he lost to Alen Khubulov from North Ossetia-Alania (2: 3), who eventually became the champion of Russia.
In total, almost 300 leading Russian freestyle wrestlers took part in the championship.
