People affectionately called March 30th — Alyosha Teply. The main task of this day was housework. True, they tried to work in the morning, and in the evening they organized family gatherings, saying goodbye to the winter. By the way, it was customary to put honey and birch infusion on the table.
Our ancestors called the birch a symbol of purity and peace. They believed that tree buds collected on March 30 had special healing powers. They were infused with wine or oil. Used as a balm for rheumatism and for healing wounds.
As for weather signs, then:
- Warmth for Alexey — the year will be fruitful.
- Is the weather cool on March 30th? Spring will be late.
- A lot of melt water means good haymaking and a rich harvest.
- The starlings haven’t arrived yet? The weather will be stormy in the coming days.
- The wagtails arrived — to the flood.
- Geese are flying high — expect snowfall.
- Catkins have appeared on the hazel tree — winter is over!
Name days are celebrated today: Alexander, Alexey, Victor, Gabriel, Makar, Pavel.
And on March 30, the Slavs sang Mother Nature. It was believed that today she wakes up after a long winter. Our ancestors celebrated this holiday in honor of the patroness of love and marriage, Lada, the goddess of the Slavic pantheon.
