Mass flowering of roses starts in the KFU Botanical Garden
CrimeaPRESS reports:
In the Botanical Garden. N. V. Bagrova of the Crimean Federal University, mass flowering of roses begins. The collection of the botanical garden includes 226 species, forms and varieties of roses of domestic and foreign selection.
The Rosary was the first exposition in the Botanical Garden. It opened in May 2005. The area of the rose garden is 0.8 hectares, and about 0.25 hectares are directly occupied by roses. In total, more than 5,000 bushes have been planted here.— the press service of the university quotes the engineer of the KFU Botanical Garden Anastasia Stepanenko.
According to her, the rose garden has a unique area of natural Crimean roses — wild roses grown in culture, as well as a collection of essential oil (technical) roses, which are used in medicine, cosmetology, for making tea, jam and other food products.
Since 1967, the World Federation of the Rose Society (WFRS) in London has held a popular vote once every two or three years and selects the prize-winning roses, giving them the title «Rose of the Hall of Fame». To date, 16 varieties have this title. We have eight of them in our collection. These are such varieties as «Pease» («Gloria Dei»), «Queen Elizabeth», «Iceberg», «Double Delight», «New Dawn», «Ingrid Bergman», «Pierre de Ronsard», «Graham Thomas», — says Anastasia Stepanenko.
As the specialist notes, the first flowering is the most massive, since spray and climbing roses bloom at this time. Flowering in the rose garden will continue for about 20 days, but this depends on weather conditions.
