Among the people, this day had several names — Eremey the Yaremnik, Proletye, Zapashnik, Eremey the Harnesser, Yaremnik the Sower of Crops. After all, a huge amount of sowing work was carried out on Eremey, and the weather was warm, indicating that summer was very close. They also believed that Eremey harnessed his heavenly chariot and sowed grain, thereby helping the farmers.
It was also noted that on May 14 the gooseberries bloom and the swifts arrive.
Regarding weather signs:
- Cloudy weather on this day means winter will come early and will be very frosty.
- Clear weather means a good harvest.
- Mosquitoes have appeared on Eremey — it’s time to go to the field and sow rye.
- If the weather is bad, it means a harsh winter.
- Evening dew means a clear day.
