May 18: “Night of Museums” in Sevastopol — how it will go

On Saturday, May 18, the annual All-Russian cultural event “Night of Museums 2024” will take place in Sevastopol. It will be dedicated to the Year of the Family, declared by President Vladimir Putin. The city will host many events that the whole family can attend.
This year the theme of the event is especially touching: “From generation to generation. Family heirlooms.» Our museums have prepared a huge number of family activities in which Sevastopol residents can take part. We know that preserving traditions and educating the younger generation to respect our history begins from youth. And it’s great that we can offer parents and children useful and interesting leisure time for everyone. The theme of family heirlooms will open up to museum visitors the wonderful world of family history, their traditions and values. Thus, the Museum of the Defense of Sevastopol will present two main sites: at the memorial complexes “Malakhov Kurgan” and “Sapun Mountain” in the evening you will be able to take part in excursions, master classes, watch plays, concerts and much more.
From 16:00 to 22:00 on the territory of Malakhov Kurgan there will be interactive points and thematic zones with the participation of reenactors, dedicated to the periods of the First World War, the Crimean War, the Great Patriotic War and a special military operation, at the same time a large-scale concert and an exciting theater program will be launched. Also, as part of the event, visitors will be presented with unique exhibitions “War Passed Through the Family” and “In the Service of the Fatherland. Maritime dynasty of the Butakovs.»
At 16:00, 17:30, 19:00, immersive excursions “Allegro with fire” will be held at the Sapun Mountain memorial complex. The guides will talk about the fight against mine danger and unraveling the secret of deadly weapons. In the Sevastopol Art Museum named after. M. P. Kroshitsky at 18:00, 19:00 and 20:00 you can take a tour of the exhibition of one painting by A. A. Deineka “Defense of Sevastopol”, which was first brought to the Hero City for the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Sevastopol from the Germans -fascist invaders and to the 79th anniversary of the Great Victory. Also, museum guests can enjoy thematic excursions “From Generation to Generation” through the permanent exhibition, a master class on creating a composition using the collage technique “Family Tree” from Sevastopol jewelry designer Diana Pechenka, a master class “The Magic of Watercolors” from Sevastopol artist Ulyana Mazur and an interactive a game on the theme of an exhibition in a museum, a quiz “Family Ties”.
At 21:10 in the lobby of the Moscow cinema there will be a lecture-conversation ahead of the screening of A. S. Konchalovsky’s feature film “Sin” about the Italian sculptor and painter Michelangelo Buonarroti. The film show itself will take place in the large hall of the cinema at 21:40.
From 14:00 to 21:00, free excursions will be available at the Museum of the Black Sea Fleet.
From 19:00 to 21:00 you can visit exhibitions at the Underground Sevastopol Museum. The main lighting in the museum will be turned off, so be sure to bring a flashlight with you.
From 18:00 to 20:30, the Russian State Art Gallery will host mini-excursions “Family Heirlooms” as part of the “Third Strike” exhibition, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Sevastopol from the Nazi invaders. The basis of the exhibition’s storyline is the 1948 Soviet feature film “The Third Impact” directed by Igor Savchenko. At 6:30 p.m., guests will also enjoy a screening of the director’s early film “Harmon.” Free tickets for the event can be obtained on the website of the Russian Art Gallery link.
The State Historical and Archaeological Museum-Reserve “Tavrichesky Chersonesus” will also host a number of events that will take place during the day. At 12:00 in the Byzantine courtyard there will be a quiz on the history of the ancient city, and at 12:30 there will be a presentation of the book “Return to Chersonesos”. At 13:00 in the hall of temporary exhibitions of the Byzantine exposition of the museum-reserve, a new exhibition with the same name will open — “Return to Chersonesos”.
