May 21 — Day of Ivan the Theologian. Baked pies, but did not eat them

On May 21, they revere the memory of St. John the Theologian. He was called by Jesus simultaneously with his older brother Jacob to become a student. According to legends, the evangelist and the apostle saw many miracles of Christ, took the most direct part in His life, witnessing the most important events. He was present during the transformation of the Lord, and it was John Christ who entrusted John to the concern for Mary after his death.
John the Theologian is also known as the author of the Gospel, as well as the Apocalypse — the only prophetic book of the New Testament.
John’s elderly was wonderful. He commanded one of his students to bury him alive, but after a while it turned out that there was no body in the grave. However, every year, ashes, possessing a healing force, protruded from the grave of the Holy Apostle.
The people baked pies on May 21 — they did not eat, but carried out by the outskirts and distributed to passers -by. It was considered a bad sign not to meet a passerby, and in this case, so as not to get trouble, they fed the pie to birds, pronouncing a special conspiracy.
